BOARD OF ADVISORS We are one of the few clubs that have a Board of Advisors. With the guidance of our advisors, we are able to make better decisions in the planning and coordination of our club. The Board has proved to be an invaluable asset. Our Board currently consists of the following distinguished individuals: MICHAEL ATKINSON: Director of Wealth Management, Vancity Mr. Michael Atkinson graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1993 where he majored in Economics and minored in Business. He also completed his Associate Certificate in Financial Planning from BCIT in 1999 and became a Certified Financial Planner in 2001. Just recently in the Summer of 2004 he completed his Executive MBA at SFU. Michael started working with VanCity in 1993 and has worked his way through various branch positions. In 1999 he became a Branch Manager and moved to the Wealth Management department in 2002, where he is the Director of Wealth Management Sales and Services. ERNESTINE CHAN, CFA Ernestine has volunteered as Programs Chair and Director for CFA Vancouver, the local society of the CFA Institute, where she organized professional development programs for the membership. Ernestine also serves on committees on The Vancouver Board of Trade and holds directorships on not-for-profit organizations and political campaigns. Ernestine holds a B. Comm (Finance) from UBC and an MBA from York University. She is also a CMA (Certified Management Accountant). She currently works for Intrawest, Stalla CFA, and runs her own consulting business. GORDON GIBBONS, CFA: Senior Vice President of Pensions and Institutions, Leith Wheeler Investment Counsel Gordon is a member of the management committee of Leith Wheeler with responsibility for portfolio management. He is a graduate of Simon Fraser University in Economics and holds the CFA charter. Gordon is a member of the Canadian Investment Committee of the International Foundation and has recently been added to the list of speakers. He is a former president of the Vancouver Society of Financial Analysts and serves on the advisory board of the Shareholders Association for Research and Education. He is a frequent speaker at pension industry events and recently addressed the CLC conference on pension fund management. DORIS GNANDT: VP and Director of Sales Services, Odlum Brown Doris Gnandt has over 23 years of experience in the financial services industry. She joined Odlum Brown in 2004 and is an active member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Board of Directors. Ms. Gnandt’s previous roles at two of the major bank-owned firms included Sales and Marketing Manager and Director, Branch Manager. In these positions, Ms. Gnandt was responsible for the management of key personnel and for the growth and development of a full range of retail investment services. As Vice President and Director, Sales Services at Odlum Brown, Ms. Gnandt leads the sales team and is responsible for driving new strategic sales initiatives. She supports the Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers by assisting them with their business efforts. Ms. Gnandt is also responsible for recruiting, training and coaching industry professionals who are guided by the same principles upon which the Firm was founded. She is always looking for qualified people to add to the Odlum Brown sales team, and encourages those who are interested to have at least five years of full-time business experience, and the passion to provide exceptional client service. Most importantly, strong candidates should have a disciplined investment philosophy and the conviction to grow their own business. A past member of the Board of Directors for the Vancouver Opera, Ms. Gnandt remains an active member of the community through her involvement with various organizations and charities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. JANINE GUENTHER, CFA: Regional Vice President, TD Waterhouse (Private Investment Counsel) Currently, Janine is a Regional Vice President of TD Waterhouse's Private Investment Counsel arm. She has also been self-employed, where she provided option overwriting strategies for private equity clients. Her experience with CFA Institute as a former President has allowed her to stay current with the CFA curriculum and the needs of the growing membership of CFA Institute. IAN ROBERTSON, CFA: Director, Odlum Brown Ian joined Odlum Brown Limited as an Investment Advisor in 1997. Prior to joining Odlum Brown, Ian spent five years with the Federal Government, where he held several positions with a financial or economic focus - including postings in Ottawa with the Department of Finance and the Department of Foreign Affairs. Ian has contributed articles related to investments and charitable giving to several newspapers and industry magazines and has been featured as a speaker at several industry conferences. He is a Portfolio Manager and a Chartered Financial Analyst. In his spare time, Ian volunteers with several non-profit organizations and enjoys golf, running and training for and competing in masters swimming events. He and his wife also enjoy gardening and spending time at home with their three young children. DEREK YEE, CFA: University Liason, CFA Vancouver; Lecturer, Simon Fraser University After almost 30 years as a corporate financial analyst, public accountant and continuing education instructor, Derek Yee gave up early retirement and a garage full of woodworking tools to join SFU Business as a finance and accounting instructor. Five years later, in 2005, he received a Canada Trust Excellence in Teaching award. Derek holds a PhD in physical chemistry and a Master's in finance. He also holds professional designations as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified General Accountant (CGA). Yee is the faculty liaison for the Global Asset and Wealth Management MBA program's Student Investment Advisory Service. IVY LEUNG, BBA, CFA: Simon Fraser University Ivy had been with RBC Dominion Securities for nine years. She was an Associate Portfolio Manager managing both discretionary and non-discretionary portfolios. Before joining RBC, she had worked at other financial institutions, including ScotiaMcLeod, Royal Trust and MetLife. Ivy holds a BBA First Class Honours degree (in Finance) from SFU and several professional designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certificate in Invesment Performance Measurement (CIPM), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) and Canadian Investment Manager (CIM). She has volunteered to mentor SFU participants in BC Portfolio Management Challenge in the last three years. |
